Algın Özcan

Algın Özcan began his artistic education at the Istanbul University State Conservatory and University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he pursued vocal studies with Professor Sedat Öztoprak and Professor Sebastian Vittucci and Professor Güzin Gürel. While his studies at the university, he made his first operatic appearances in the roles of Fenton in Nicolai’s Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor (2016) and Ferrando in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte (2017). In 2016 – 17 he was a member of the Opera Academy of Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of conductor Sascha Goetzel. In 2018, he performed also Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore (Oper im Berg Festival) in Salzburg, Austria. The young tenor pursued Master’s studies in singing with Professor Ulf Bästlein at the University of Music and the Performing Arts Graz. Algın has gathered experience as a soloist in several works of 20th-century music. In 2018 the young tenor made his role debuts as the Tenor soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana Cantata with Istanbul State Opera in Zorlu Performing Arts Center under Serdar Yalçın and in 2016 with Fazıl Say at the Ankara Bilkent Odeon in Fazıl Say`s Bells under Ibrahim Yazıcı. He has also sung in sacred music and oratorios as well as various masses and cantatas by composers such as Haydn, Mozart and Rossini.

His repertoire including the roles in Fenton (Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Ferrando (Cosi Fan Tutte), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Paolino (Il matrimonio segreto), Premier Commissaire/L’Aumônier (Les Dialogues des Carmélites), Lindoro (La fedelta premiata), Borsa (Rigoletto), Orpheus/Pluton (Orpheus in der Unterwelt).

He has worked and taken masterclasses with many distinguished classical performers and opera and stage directors, such as Eva Mei, Alfonso Antoniozzi, Katharina Thoma, Olivier Tambosi, Robert Simma, Marie Helle, Aytaç Manizade, David Walsh and conductors such as, Sascha Goetzel, Ibrahim Yazıcı, Serdar Yalçın, Murat Cem Orhan, Zdravko Lazarov, Frank Cramer, Marco Moresco.
